Arranging an assessment

Lower lid assessment takes place in the outpatient clinic of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital, 301 Huafu Avenue North Section, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. Call the outpatient line, or use the channel described on the appointments page, and say that you are asking about the lower lids so that the right clinic time is booked. If you have had filler in the tear trough, or an eyelid operation before, say so when you arrange it.

What the examination establishes

The assessment looks at how the lid margin sits against the eye, how much white shows below the iris, how the lid springs back when it is pulled gently away, and how the fat and the skin behave when the eye is open and when it looks up. The tear film is assessed as part of the same visit, because a dry eye changes what can safely be done. Previous treatment is recorded with dates. Photographs are taken in a standard position, because lid position is judged against a baseline rather than from memory. You should leave knowing which layer is the problem, what can safely be removed, and what the alternatives are.

What to bring

Bring a list of your medication, including anything that affects clotting, and any record of previous eyelid surgery or filler in the area. Tell the team about dry eye, about contact lens wear, about thyroid disease, and about any allergy that affects the eyelids. Mention any blood-thinning medicine you take, including anything you have bought yourself, because it changes the timing rather than the plan.

The review visits

Reviews at about one week, six weeks, three months, six months and twelve months are part of the plan rather than extra appointments. The early ones check healing and the position of the sutures; the later ones are when lid position is judged with the swelling gone and when the scar is assessed as it matures. The six-month visit is the earliest point at which a revision is worth discussing at all.
