What this site is for
This is a patient decision guide to surgery on the lower eyelid, published by Chongqing West District Hospital, a tertiary general hospital in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. It narrows the brow lift decision pages of this cluster rather than repeating them: whether to have an operation on the face at all, and how the brow and the upper lid enter the same decision, are answered there. What this site adds is the part that is specific to the lower lid — naming which layer is the problem, deciding what can safely be removed, and recognising the lid that should be left alone.
The distinction the site is built on
Four layers sit within a few millimetres of each other under the eye, and they produce the same complaint. Fat that has moved forward, skin that has thinned, muscle that has thickened and a lid that has lost its support all read as a tired eye, and they are answered by different operations or by none. The layer that governs the rest is the tone of the lid itself, because it decides how much tissue can be taken before the margin drops. Everything here turns on that, which is why the assessment is described before the technique in almost every guide.
What it deliberately does not do
It does not name products or brands, quote prices or dosages, or promise a result. It does not present fat removal as a way to look younger in general, and it does not treat a lid left slightly full as a failure, because the alternative error is harder to correct. It does not describe what eyelid surgery is or how anaesthesia works, because that is the parent site’s work rather than this one’s, and it does not present the alternatives as a consolation, because for a hollow or a colour problem they are the better answer rather than the lesser one.
How the content is reviewed and corrected
Tongchun Mao, MD, Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery, is the responsible physician. Every guide is reviewed against his clinical judgement before publication and reviewed again on a twelve-month cycle. If you find something unclear, out of date or wrong, the contact page explains how to tell us, and corrections are made to the page itself.
